A veteran tutor with over two decades of experience in the education industry, I provide middle and high schoolers with customized 1-on-1 online academic instruction, standardized test preparation, and college application essay coaching. Before Be Nimble, I worked for a number of test prep companies including Revolution Prep and Compass Prep. I’ve enabled hundreds of students to achieve grade and test score goals while sharpening their reading, writing, math, and critical thinking skills. I’ve also helped students gain acceptance to top-tier schools such as Stanford, Harvard, Brown, Princeton, Yale, MIT, Georgetown, USC, the University of Virginia, and the University of Michigan.
My patient and calm demeanor allows teens to quickly feel comfortable working with me. I create a safe, nonjudgmental space, encouraging them to ask questions and reach out at any time.
With a passion for storytelling and expertise in both academic and creative writing, I love coaching students with their personal statements. Together, we reflect upon core values and dig deep to discover the significant experiences that have shaped them into who they are today. This process empowers students to tell their stories in a specific, authentic way.
I also teach essential study habits and proper writing techniques, building students’ ability to analyze text and express ideas in a cohesive, cogent manner. Motivating teens to work more efficiently and become more excited about learning is a strong suit of mine.
I’ve worked with a number of students who struggle with self-doubt, teaching them tools to feel capable of handling whatever is thrown their way. As someone who was painfully shy growing up and struggled to even raise my hand in class, I am particularly positioned to help others overcome their fears, honor their voice, and trust their ability to tackle challenging material. Inspired by Carol Dweck’s Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, I always strive to foster a growth mindset in teens, emphasizing the values of effort, persistence, practice, and hard work in addition to end results.
I am genuinely interested in getting to know my students and am fully invested in their success. I support them at every stage of the journey.
I graduated from Stanford University with an MA and BA in English, and a minor in Psychology. During my junior year, I studied overseas at Oxford and rowed on a novice crew team, running through cow pastures at 5am as part of our morning routine. At Stanford, I wrote for The Stanford Daily, edited A Woman’s Guide to Stanford, and worked as an editorial assistant for the Stanford University Press.
I also studied at the Circle in the Square Theater School, a two-year conservatory program in New York, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, immersing myself in all things Shakespeare and deepening my love of language as a means of dynamic expression.
In addition to tutoring, I worked as an adjunct professor at Los Angeles Valley College, instructing students in the art and craft of essay composition.
Outside of teaching, I have a passion for storytelling and writing. I’ve written 14 blogs on HuffPost inspired by my own life experience with a focus on personal growth, infusing serious subject matter with a light and approachable tone. See writing samples.
While living in Los Angeles, I wrote and acted in a solo show called “Tall Girl” that debuted at The Groundlings. I then adapted the show into a short film that was chosen as an official selection at 15 film festivals, both at home and abroad.
